ACSUM’s 28th Annual Delegate Assembly Report

ACSUM delegates met on April 28, 2007 in Bangor for our 28th Annual Delegate Assembly.  At the assembly, delegates elected the following new state officers:

  • Jim Bradley, State President, term expires July 1, 2009
  • Cindy Heron, State Vice President, term expires July 1, 2009
  • Dan Lalonde, State Treasurer, term expires, July 1, 2008

 

MEA President Chris Galgay presented opening remarks.  We also heard from candidates for MEA Treasurer, Joyce Blakney and Kerry Sullivan.

Regular business of the assembly included:

  • MEA Board of Director’s Report from Nancy Fletcher
  • MEA Uniserv Director’s Report from John Bracciodieta
  • Approval of treasurer reports and 2007-2008 budget

 

New Business Item:

  • Delegates voted to approve increasing the local share of ACSUM dues by .23 cents per pay period for full-time employees and .12 cents for part-time employees.  This was the first increase in the local share of dues in many years, and will be used for:
    • Membership recruitment – increasing membership levels is the top priority for ACSUM
    • Communication – additional funds will be used to expand our state communications system to help keep members better informed regarding what is happening with ACSUM
    • State Executive Board expenses – additional funds were needed to cover board meeting expenses, primarily mileage, so that we can prevent canceling meetings due to lack of funds.  We have had to cancel several meetings in the last couple of years due to lack of funds.

Finally, we were thrilled to have as our guest speaker, Governor John Baldacci.  The Governor spoke with us for about an hour and spent a great deal of that time listening to and answering our questions.  On item in particular was the issue surrounding Peoplesoft.  The Governor was very concerned after listening to us share our experiences using Peoplesoft and offered to have ACSUM meet with his staff leadership to discuss the issue further.
