Greetings,

My name is Jim Bradley and I’m State President of ACSUM (Associated COLT Staff of the Universities of Maine).  I want to take a moment to welcome you to our website as well as to welcome you to your new employment in the University of Maine System.

You should have received a letter from me shortly after you were hired talking about ACSUM and the requirement that you either join the union by becoming a dues-paying member or by paying a representation fee to ACSUM.  It is my hope that you will choose to become a dues-paying member and support your colleagues who work hard on your behalf to negotiate fair wages and benefits and to ensure that our contract is followed by UMS.  As a dues-paying member of ACSUM, you not only join your colleagues at UMS who are members, but you also join over 25,000 members as part of the Maine Education Association as well as over 3.2 million members of the National Education Association.

There are many benefits of membership which you can learn more about by exploring this website.  You can also contact your chapter representatives and they will be glad to meet with you to discuss membership.  In short, every important aspect of your job is negotiated by ACSUM.  Wages, healthcare, retirement, vacation leave, sick leave, evaluation process, process for earning a promotion, tuition waiver, etc are all negotiated by ACSUM.  Isn’t it in your own best interest to have a strong union advocating on your behalf?  I hope you agree that it is and decide to join ACSUM today.

Below is a link to a membership form.  It only takes a moment to complete and if you have any questions, you can contact your chapter representative or you can also contact me directly at 753-6618 or jbradley@usm.maine.edu

Join ACSUM today and together we can continue to ensure fair wages and benefits for all our members!

Thank you,

Jim

Here is a link to the campus representatives:  [Link]

Remember, a condition of your employment at UMS is that you either become a dues-paying member or you pay a representation fee (95% of the dues amount).  If ultimately you decide you would rather not join and pay the representation fee, here is a link to that form.  The savings between membership and paying the representation fee is only about .50 cents per pay period so please reconsider joining so that you get the benefits of membership.
